Since we are not trained to do medical work ourselves, this isn't a part of our ministry which we particularly focus upon. In spite of this, we often find ourselves involved in helping people with their medical needs.

We host medical and dental teams as often as they are made available to us, which is only about once a year or so.

People with ongoing medical needs (like some birth defects which can never be resolved) are often placed into our special needs program.

Other types of medical problems can sometimes be resolved through a fairly simple diagnosis and the purchase of easily available medicines, but for various reasons the person has not been helped through the existing medical care facilities in Gracias. We're always pleased when our own limited resources can quickly resolve a medical problem which has been a burden to someone.

Occasionally we encounter a person with a very severe medical need, and we will try to find resources which are available to help: in the bigger cities, in larger missionary hospitals in Honduras, in the US, or with specialized medical teams who occasionally visit the country. We do whatever we can (helping with communications, transportation, fund raising, etc) to get the help to the person in need, or more often, to transport the person to the available medical care.
